Grubette's Hand of the Week #20

Congrats to Pengy for winning $20 in HoW #19. He joins AgentLace in correctly guessing two HoWs. Collusion!

For this week, a bit of a change...

Grubette's Hand of the Week #20
for Monday, October 4, 2004

Prize: A Gift of Grub

(a beer with grubette at Hawaiian Gardens
+ $25 giftcard to a Brinker Int'l Restaurant --
Chili's, Macaroni Grill, Maggiano's, Big Bowl, etc.)

To commemorate 20 of these things, for this week we're changing it a bit by asking WWGD (What Would Grubette Do)?

grubette emailed this to me last week and I responded with what I thought she did, and I thought it would make a good HoW.

The first person to correctly guess her hand and what she did will win the gift card and grubette will buy you a beer next time you're passing through Hawaiian Gardens. If there's no correct answer, grubette may choose one she likes best (the more thoughtful your guess, the better) or carry over the prize to the next HoW.

One guess per person, please. The winner and what grubette had and did will be posted next Monday.

This week's HoW is sponsored by Paradise Poker. Yes, Paradise. The next best thing to Vita-Meata-Vegamin. If you've never checked out Paradise and would like to support more of these quizzes and beer for grubette, consider using that link. And if you enter the bonus code of GRANNY you'll get an extra 50 percent bonus on your first deposit up to $100 (vs. the normal 25 percent up to $50). If you're the winner and you sign up through this link, the prize is doubled for you (which means two beers from grubette).

Leave your guess in the comments section below. You can be Anonymous without registering through Blogger, but do include your name so I know whose guess is whose.

If you don't include contact info and you're the winner, email me after the quiz is over.

Good luck and good skills,

Not much of anything
by grubette

I didn't do anything at all at work yesterday.. didn't really talk to anyone, so I decided to go to HI-G. Lost won lost, in that order.

Down $125, went to NL even though I had sworn it off.

Anyway, Doug said I had to be home by 8 after extending my previous deadline of 7. The table was fairly conservative so there wasn't much action. When time was nearly up, on my last hand I announced pre-deal that, "This will be my last hand" and it was 7.45pm.. I was right after the BB so I raised it to $15 (blinds are $2/3).

I was then re-raised all-in to $60, and the button called (he had about $500 total). Then back to me, the pot has $140 in it. I count my remaining chips, I have $141.

The board was Q-3-3-J-2. Suits don't matter.

a) What did grubette have?
b) What did she do?
(and a bonus c) What should she have done?)

Again, remember: grubette likes psych games and at this point she had consumed two and a half light beers.

For the prize of a Gift of Grub, WWGD?

This HoW is really light on details - what occured when. I have this eerie feeling that 7:45 pm and $141 are significant, or are you just making this like a highschool math problem? So I have no clue ... after discounting the Hammer, I would guess that Grubette went all in with Presto! (5,5). What should she have done? - fold. Habsfanca11

JJ, just because.

You only called, but should have gone over the top all-in.

a) I'm saying grubette held AJo...
b) she re-raised all-in and the button called; the button caught the Q and grubette (and the first all-in) lost the pot (since she states she lost at the end of the night)...
c) at that time of night, probably should have folded and walked away up $16 for the evening.

Bah, Badblood is likely dead on, but I will say she had AQ and laid it down pre-flop. Which was the correct thing to do because the pre-flop push was with deuces, and the button was trapping with KK. She never had a chance, but Grubette was smart enough to know the button wanted action with a flat call when he could have isolated. She would have ended up pushing on the Q33 flop, and going broke. But she didn't, cause she's smart, because she's Grubette.

a guess from firewalled Carter...

a) she had pocket 3's
b) she bet the pot, $140, and kept a single $1 chip back (this is where the head game comes in)
c) her pot-sized bet, probably scared out the $500 stack, so she "should" have made a weaker bet, hoping for a re-raise from him

WWGD: probably medium-play the pot on all-streets, hoping for a big raise to call or re-raise.

grubette may be posting additional clues here in Comments. You're of course free to change your guess... but careful what may lie behind that door #3!

I forgot to add that the NL buy-in was $100 max and that's what I bought in for.

A) She had TT and flat called the re-aise

B) On the flop she pretended to check her hole cards while flashing cleavage to the table and said "I have a VERY big pair here boys, its only $81 to see them" and went all-in got called and lost

C) Not let her man oppress her with deadlines

Hmmm... a beer on Grubette? I gotta take a shot...
a) I'm gonna say pocket 8s or 9s. 9s if I have to choose.
b) She pushed all in.
c) She should have called, seen the flop, and then pushed. Then she should have consumed 4 more light beers, threw up on the table, and call me to sit the 100-200 game at HP.

Grubette has a curfew? The shame, the shame...

As much as I want to say 72o...

(a) Grubette had QJ, (b) she called, and got toasted by a set of 3s or a boat, and (c) she should have bought another beer beforehand to reduce her losses.

(Nice site -- you don't really need to count this entry, just enjoying the challenge).

a) She had rockets (AA)
b) She called and tried to finesse the button to try and triple up.
c) She should have pushed because the button had pocket treys and would've folded to a bigger bet.

someone's gotta do it:

a)she had the hammer
b)she folded the hammer
c)she should have gone all in and beaten the other two guys who would have missed their hands (probably AK)

Dammit. I was gonna post exactly what THG said. Instead, I'll guess A)KQ... B)called the all-in... C)should have folded, drank some more and gone home

a) Grubette was holding the Hilton Sisters
b) She just called preflop. Pushed in after the Queen hit the flop and was called down by a tool bag who flopped quads
c) What should she have done? She should have looked around for the local drunk hippy, asked for his opinion, and then done the exact opposite.

I'll be glad to show Grubette the "Opposing Hippy" play/move when she buys my beer at the Hi-G!
