Grubby's Hand of the Week #10

Waterlogged!

I returned from a couple days away and found my convector unit must have malfunctioned and flooded my dining room.

I have a hardwood floor, and several tiles warped enough that they now look like a wooden tidal wave or like a gopher just tunneled through. It's pretty comical looking to have a hill in the middle of my dining room that squishes on the way to the kitchen.

At least I have two other convector units, so I won't be without air conditioning.

Onto more important things...

Five bucks extra this week to $25, as there was no winner for Hand of the Week #9.

Some interesting hand suggestions, particularly the trick of both hands being the same. Ah, you guys give me too much credit for being crafty.

Hand A: BB had Q 3 (which would've won Hand B)
Hand B: Button had J 9

The key was the type of game -- 10+1 SnGs on Party are notoriously loose and full of much bluffing. It being the middle of the night caused people to make even worse plays.

If you play tight in these games and let everyone else knock each other out, you'll do well.

Next week is the July 4th holiday, so Hand of the Week will likewise be on holiday. Many hands will be played over that weekend, and I hope to come up with a good one.

In the meantime, this week we have either an extremely easy one or an extremely difficult one, depending how you look at it. Because we're off next week, I'm doubling the prize if you're the first to guess both questions correctly... and exactly.

I'm not too happy with the way I played this. For one, I should not have played KTo to begin with. However, first place was a seat into a larger multi... and when I checked (after I'd registered), I realized I wouldn't be able to make it if I won. Too late to unregister, so I played more hands than usual and had fun.

I think it's quite obvious that he tossed out a "feeler" bet post-flop, and then a scare bet post-turn.
Your move is to play back to him with a big enough bet (1/2 pot to pot) that he won't try to make a move on you with a reraise. If your bet resembles a value bet, he may even make you for slowplaying a flopped straight, and he may even lay down a decent hand.

I figure you are asking us to guess what you did.
The answer is obvious, of course! You go allin, with your great K high, and get called by A-J, whom takes it down with third nut, no pair. Wakka wakka!

Since you didn't give us your "read" on the SB, I figure that means you weren't there long enough to get a read on him. Looking at his chip count, he seems pretty loose-passive, limping in and folding on the flop on the first hand. (Looks like this was the second hand of the tourney.) Crazy PPers like bluffing small with overcards, so a Ace-face seems likely. Of course, he was "foolish" enough to call with no pair...

The SB probably had 37o, flopped an open ender, hit it on the turn but then realised the flush possibilities so he checked the river.

I'd give the pot up, just because he's likely to call your bluff in any case

To me, SB's betting indicates top pair on the flop but got scared on the rivered Q, so my guess is he had 10,9.

Grubby on the other hand recognized this and bet out T75.

SB has 95, made a stupid BB sized bet on the flop, bet higher on the turn to fish for callers (he got one), now he checks the river.

I'm going with the consensus that he has top pair (w/med. kicker). I'm going to guess SB has Q, 9 and can't make up his/her mind if trapping or to be concerned about the flush. Advice is check, even though SB has played weak, you'll get called. Habsfanca11

I believe you made a solid raise, but not all-in. The SB called you with a T3 holding second pair post flop.

1) You made a bet of around 3/4 of the pot and SB folded.

2) SB held A/9 with the Ace being a spade.

Bet out as he had top pair top kicker on flop. Bet bigger on turn as had nut flush draw. Checked the river as he was worried about you having the straight or flush or a Q as you called all his bets so far.

You bet out about 1/2 the pot and SB called winning the hand.

I realized my original answer to 1 could not be correct as SB would not have shown his hand with a fold...duh me, lol.

I still feel confident with my second answer on the hand though :o)

It obviously went to showdown because you know what the SB was holding so I don't think you bet him out of the pot.

Since it was the second hand of the tourney, I'm betting you just checked it down.

SB was holding 34. Flopped the open-ended straight draw. Caught a pair on the turn and the Q on the river scared him.

Of course, the SB has Q8, flopped an open ender, caught top pair on the river, but checked because of the flush, called you (or maybe even reraised all-in), and you lost.
