Grubby's Hand of the Week #9

Congrats to Pengy, who correctly guessed my Hand of the Week #8 caller had the Brunson -- 10-2. Don't quite know how ya figured it out, Pengy, but shoot me your address and you'll have $25 coming to you.

Grubby's Hand of the Week #9
for Monday, June 21, 2004

Prize: $20

The first person to correctly guess my opponent's hand before next Monday wins. Suits may or may not matter. One guess per person, please. Winner will be declared here the following week. If there's no winner, the prize will roll over to next week plus $5.

If you're signed up to Empire Poker or Absolute Poker through me (use those links to sign up), the prize is doubled for you.

Leave your guess in the comments section below. You can be Anonymous without registering through Blogger, but do include your name so I know whose guess is whose.

If you don't include contact info and you're the winner, email me after the quiz is over.

Good luck and good skills,

Okay, we're back to Party for this week. From wildly different 10+1 NL SnGs a couple weeks ago, these two hands are similar in that they involved more than simply playing the cards. Alas, I don't remember any more than that to help you out. Hey, no one said these things would be easy! A hint, though: keep in mind the number of players and the size of the stacks. They were also 4 a.m. games... on a school night.

Be the first to guess either one correctly and get $20. Be the first to guess both correctly and get $100.

Hand A

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em SnG, Big Blind is t100 (3 handed) converter

SB (t1945)
BB (t1820)
grubby (t4235)

Preflop: grubby is Button with A 9
grubby raises to t200, 1 fold, BB calls t100.

Flop: (t450) 5 5 5 (2 players)
BB bets t1620 (All-In), grubby calls t1620.
[A move like this is typically a steal. I felt my Ace high was good.]

Turn: (t3690) A (2 players, 1 all-in)

River: (t3690) 8 (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: t3690
Main Pot: t3690 (t3690), between BB and grubby.

Hand B

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em SnG, Big Blind is t30 (8 handed) converter

BB (t710)
UTG (t915)
UTG+1 (t1933)
MP1 (t770)
MP2 (t857)
CO (t1625)
Button (t550)
grubby (t640)

Preflop: grubby is SB with 6 5
5 folds
, Button calls t30, grubby completes, BB checks.

Flop: (t90) Q 3 3 (3 players)
grubby checks, BB checks, Button checks.

Turn: (t90) 5 (3 players)
grubby bets t30
, BB folds, Button raises to t60, grubby raises to t90, Button calls t30.
[I raised for information... and got it when he just called.]

River: (t270) 3 (2 players)
grubby bets t30, Button calls t30.

Final Pot: t330
Main Pot: t330 (t330), between Button and grubby.

What did BB have in Hand A?
What did the Button have in Hand B?

Hand A - I agree, small pocket pair for BB (the all-in was to chase the overcards out). I'll say 22
Hand B - Button has 22. That's why these hands are presented together.

Or not.

My guess is A-4 on both. Seems like in hand B, BB was going for a straight draw (board shows 3-5, holds A-4, needs 2 for the gutshot).
Hand A could just be a K high, but I'm sticking with the theory that the two hands are the same.

Hand A the BB had 5d 6d
Hand B the button had K3o. My first guess was A5, but that's too obvious, and guessing by stack size, the button probably limps with crap a lot, and if these hands are similar, I'm guessing it's because you got beat by quads. (And I guess I'll write the button not raising at the end off as the "4am on a school night" part. :)

Going on the "same hand theory":

BB Hand A: J5 suited

Button Hand B: J5 suited

No winner this week!

This was a real head-scratcher:

Hand A: BB had Qd3s (which would've won Hand B)
Hand B: Button had Jc9h

I won both hands. For a change.
